Sublime, the original line-up, with Bradley Knowell was awesome and can never be replaced.
But, in a world where old bands are still trying to re-capture what they once had by replacing band members is getting old fast, the Misfits only have Jerry Only.
Dont get me wrong, I still love the new Misfits, they kick ass and Jerry is the shit for keeping it going and keeping the spirit alive, but, for this posts purposes, the new Misfits still serve a purpose in that they are a new form of an old band and they have new members in as replacements for the old better members.
Alice in Chains has a new singer and he looks like a Lenny Kravitz wanna be, a far step away from Layne Stayley and as far as I care, a slap in the face to all true Alice in Chains fans.
The Germs reunited for a while with that dude from E.R. and can u say "PUKE!!!!"?!
Now, on to Sublime with Rome and how they are better and different, first off, the name, "Sublime with Rome"- they aren't just sticking with the name Sublime, they are seperating themselves from the original incarnation of Sublime by adding the "With Rome", that right there deserves respect.
In a time where bands replace band members and more importantly singers, they could at least change the name a little bit, ya know?
Maybe something like "Alice in Chains with....." or "The germs with...."
Or "The Misfits with Robo and Dez"?
Sublime with Rome is a perfect name, it lets the true Sublime fans know that it isnt the same band while at the same time not alientating them, I mean the hardcore Sublime fans that are against the new singer will automatically alienate themselves from the change in singer almost imedeiatley, but, thats another topic of discussion for another time.
The new Sublime still has 2 out of the 3 original members in the band.
They know that Bradley can NOT and will NEVER be able to truly be replaced.
But, they are carrying on the Sublime legacy, they are preserving the attitude that came with the original songs.
They took the correct approach to acquiring a new singer and the correct approach to coming back onto the music scene, I look forward to the new Sublime music in the same way that I look forward to hearing new Misfits music.
